Idaho Revolutionary Spuddies Bring America 250 to Mini-Cassia — Christmas Style

The Idaho Revolutionary Spuddies visited the Mini-Cassia area to celebrate America 250 with a festive, patriotic presence that combined local tradition and holiday cheer. Representing the Semiquincentennial were James Madi “Spud” and Molly “Tot” Pitcher, who appeared at two community events and helped engage residents in commemorating 250 years of American independence.

  • On Friday, November 28, and Saturday, November 29, The Spuddies joined the Tree Festival activities and invited attendees to participate in a special signing. More than 300 people signed their names on a commemorative Declaration of Independence scroll. That scroll will be displayed at the Idaho State Capitol in 2026 as part of the state’s America 250 observances.
  • After the Tree Festival, James Madi “Spud” and Molly “Tot” Pitcher joined the Burley Lighted Christmas Parade, symbolically calling attention to the “Light of Liberty” — the faith and values that have helped preserve our nation under God for 250 years.

Thank you to the committee
Sincere thanks to all committee members and volunteers whose planning and hard work made these appearances possible. Their efforts connected community members across Mini-Cassia to a shared commemoration—blending Christmas celebrations and national remembrance.

How to celebrate America’s Semiquincentennial in everyday life
Not everyone needs a parade float to take part. Practical, meaningful ways to observe America 250 include:

  1. Learn and share history — visit a museum, historical marker, or library and tell one family story at your next gathering.
  2. Host a neighborhood reading — read the Declaration of Independence or other founding-era documents at a small community event.
  3. Support local veterans and service organizations — donate time or resources to groups that serve the community.
  4. Volunteer for public projects — help with park cleanups, community gardens, or service days that improve local civic life.
  5. Organize an intergenerational activity — connect youth and elders for oral history sessions or civic projects.
  6. Celebrate civic participation — make a plan to vote, attend a town meeting, or observe how local government functions. Cassia / Minidoka
  7. Adopt a Semiquincentennial tradition — create an annual family or neighborhood moment that commemorates the day (flag raising, moment of silence, potluck).
  8. Educate children — include age-appropriate lessons and activities about the founding era and why civic participation matters.

Get involved
The next collaboration meeting is scheduled for December 8, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the Burley City Council room. Community members interested in volunteering, contributing ideas, or joining the planning effort are encouraged to attend.

Celebrate thoughtfully, involve your neighbors, and help make America 250 an occasion that honors history and builds our continuing republic.
